2/27/17 - Infographic Reflection

What have you learned about Infographics?  Did you enjoy creating your own? (please explain). When might you use an Infographic in your school work, personal life, or other?  Which Infographic site did you use?  Was the site easy to navigate? Would you use it again or look for another site?

I have learned quite a bit about infographics through this project. In a technology class I have taken previously, we did a project on them as well, however, I think that this lesson was easier to follow and more manageable. I did enjoy creating mine on the site Easel.ly, and I had no trouble navigating the website for the most part. I was able to do just about all of the ideas that I had in mind with the free tools provided. I am glad I learned this skill because I think it is a unique and interesting way to spread information. I would use this next time I need to make a poster, or if I come across an open ended assignment that could use something like this.

2/23/17 - Infographic research/examples

An infographic is an artistic representation of information using visual elements to relay the information such as pictures, graphs, charts or timelines. Infographics are used to create a more engaging way to get information or an idea across to the readers.  An infographic is best used for information that is comparing two or more things, sharing a large amount of statistics on a singular topic, or showing steps on how something is done. The key purpose of a good infographic translates basic data and information into easily digestible visual representations. Pictures are often more memorable and more likely to catch a reader's attention. I would use an infographic to spice up how I present information on a comparative assignment. I see this style of information working well on a poster presentation because it shows all the information on one large surface yet still remaining concise and interesting.

2/21/17 Canva vs. Lucid Press

When comparing the two websites Canva and Lucid Press, there really wasn't a comparison for me. When attempting to work with Canva, I had a difficult time getting started, and making a final product I was truly happy with aesthetically. Changing to Lucid Press, I was immediately able to comfortably move through the sight and create really professional end products that I would be proud to show off. I enjoyed Lucid Press the most because it provided more templates, easier directions and features to follow, and more free features that I enjoyed. I defiantly thought that Lucid Press over Canva created the best looking and "trendy" end results. A Pro of Canva  was that you were able to look up pictures directly on the web sight easier, however, a lot of the pictures that I liked were not free to use. A Pro to Lucid Press was that the templates were phenomenal and diverse in my opinion. The only downside that made Lucid Press difficult to work with was that it was hard for me to figure out how to share it. Overall, I really do like Lucid Press better and Im planning to use it at any other opportunity to make my projects stand out.

2/16 "My Dream Business"

Think of a business that you would love to start or run.  Tell me about your business idea, where you would locate your business, what goods or services you would provide, etc., etc....

Then -- Go to LucidPress.com and create a free student account.  Prepare to create documents for your dream business.  Make sure to create a business name & possibly even a logo for your business.

I would love to learn how to professionally arrange flowers, so I created a flower arranging business called "Green Arrangements". It would be located in Deer Creek woods in Overland Park because it is a busy area that most people know how to locate. We would provide arrangements for weddings, holidays, and other events. I included the detail that there would be flower arrangement classes available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

2/13/17 Sweet Heart Weekend / More Canva

Tell me about your Sweetheart weekend.  Did you attend the game at Southwest?   How about the dance?  If you didn't go to sweetheart, what did you do?  Please attach a picture or 2 from your phone that tells me about your weekend.

Over the weekend I did not go to sweet heart. I worked in the mornings until 3 both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday night, I finished the painting for my boyfriend's Valentine's day present. It is a painting from the T.V show Spongebob called "Bold and Brash". Squidward painted it to show to an art critic in one episode and it became a meme a while ago. I thought it would be funny and nostalgic. Then on Sunday night I went to my Grandma's 74th birthday. We made her dinner and a bunch of chocolate strawberries.

  • Select three different types of documents to create that you might be able to use in your school or personal life
  • Once you have completed them, post them to your blog & explain how you will use each one.

I would use this if I were to get a LinkedIn or any social media really. It would help make my profile look more professional.
I could use this to set my blog apart from the others and make it more unique.
I need to find a time to teach the younger people in the theater department how to do makeup. After I leave I'm not sure there is someone who is well versed in the theatrical makeup department, so I would use this to send out an invitation and get that started.

2/5/2016 - ET Course Reflection & Personal Report Card

After reviewing my grades for this class, I am very pleased that I have been able to keep an A in the class. Honestly this class is very helpful to a person like me--- not good with technology at all! I remember at the beginning of class I was worried that I would get left behind. But from a combination of being able to type fast and the slow and steady increase in difficulty of the content, I am succeeding. The new technology that I have like the most this year was using blogger. I really like the daily posts we make. Blogger is something that I could use in a future career like using it as a portfolio for my work in the theater department. It's been really easy for me to use and have made me excited for it's possibilities.

2/9 - Kids These Days

Pretend that you're in your 70's or 80's. Complain about kids these days.

One of the things that make me consistently disappointed in the younger generation is their how they don't value the right things anymore. When I was younger, and before my time, the value of a person was not their fame, or infamy. It was not how many people knew their name for posting good selfie, it was not about who had the most admirers of their beauty. When I was younger, the people who were popular were the servants. The people who went out of their way to befriend the lonely, served the community, and made a positive difference. Now a days, gaining recognition is easily obtainable; pose the right way, post the right thing, or preform a stunt. There is a real difference between the two. One would extend themselves without the need of validation, and the other need their 15 minutes of fame with everything they do. How shallow has the human race become? Not feeling themselves if they don't hit a certain number of likes. They immediately feel like trash if they see someone with more followers than them. They don't value genuine people anymore. Everything seems like a stunt to me.

2/6 "Collaborating Remotely" Reflection

Reflect on your experience completing this partner project.  Was it hard to work with your partner without talking?  Can you imagine conducting business in this way on a regular basis?  What did you learn from this experience?

Link to presentation

It was a little hard in the beginning to get started. I thought because his name was first that he would contact me, but I had to take initiative. We also had a hard time picking a topic because we both didn't feel strongly in any direction. When it came to actually communicating needs and concerns, it took a little to figure out what worked best for both of us. We jumped on the opportunity to use Google docs so that we could both work on it together in real time. I think I could conduct business easily in this way on a regular basis because we have so many tools at our disposal. As long as all people in the project know how to fully work the programs, and are doing their part, everything should go smoothly. Something that I would have done differently next time is downloading the final Google slide to a PowerPoint. Through this project I learned that I like this way of collaboration.

2/2/2017 Pictures

This is a fish I won at Petland Freshman year by finding a ghost hidden in the store on Halloween. I named in Grumpy.

This is me in stylized makeup for the upcoming show "The Bad Seed".  The entire show, including hair and makeup, are going to be on a grey-scale. I have my sister in the picture to show to difference in skin tone better. This was a challenge but I'm excited to see how it looks onstage. I think I can pull this off.

This was a picture I took while at "Drama-Con" in Wichita in January. This was a seminar given by a Mehron representative showing us his techniques on putting on wigs. I went to mostly makeup and hair seminars, and one salsa class with a friend.

My little sister is in second grade and still really believes in Santa. We do the "Elf on a shelf" every year and she looks forward to it every time. This is one that I came up with. This is "Elf Ava" with her pal "Rosie" having a movie night together eating goldfish and sprinkles.

This is a pin that I made and spread around school in order to spread a positive message. I wanted there to be a way to know that in every classroom you go in, there will be someone who will support you. I only made a limited amount so that the people who don't support this won't be singled out. I made these because a dear friend of mine expressed fear to me about his future in regards to safety and acceptance in college.

1/31/17 Words for Teenagers

Read this small newspaper clipping and then write a blog post about it. What are your thoughts? How does it make you feel? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself in at least 5 sentences.

I think that it is a wake up call that some teenagers need to see. There is a lot of laziness out there in the youth--Especially in a place like Johnson County. A lot of  kids have no concept of what real hard times are. Everything that goes wrong for them is caused by stupid choices they made themselves. Of course I am not talking about all teens in this area. Just the kids that have never worked a day in their life, word but expect not to have to work hard, and other situations where they expect more output than their input. They preach about wanting the world to change, but refuse to put the work in themselves.

1/30 Ted Talk Reflection

This is a topic that once it was brought to my attention, I defiantly see this problem everywhere. Trying to get the attention of my friends or family while they are glued to their devices is hard. My family doesn't spend a ton of time face to face, we spend time Snap-chatting each other in the same room, or sharing Instagram posts that we think the other will like. After hearing this, I think that I'm going to make a more conscious effort to spend face to face time, especially with my sisters, before I go to college. I think that spending time that doesn't involve technology creates richer and more memorable experiences to remember together. I think this will have a negative impact on society. The fact that technology is taking away from real and personable connections is really sad. I think that eventually meeting new people in real life will be something that is just not desirable anymore, and the relationships that we have built are not deep ones.
